Our Pursuit

Any skilled horseman understands that true development doesn’t happen by chance, it’s the result of an intentional program built on consistency and set standards. Here at Ranch Horse University we have proven results that back our program’s structure. Our certification program develops horses that can carry their owners during an honest days work on the ranch, down the trail or to the winner’s circle in the arena.

During the initial stage of training individual components are isolated to foster understanding and control. However, if caution is not exercised there is the risk for micromanagement of individual parts (such as the head, neck, shoulders, rib cage & hip) to become a necessity. Our program differs in its belief that for a horse to ultimately learn, we must be willing to teach but also trust it to respond to cues with unity throughout its body. If one constantly assumes responsibility for the horse’s actions- how will it ever comprehend the expected standards?

RHU’s objective is to cultivate straightness, honesty and responsibility in our more advanced horses. Making them much more suited for non-pro ownership.

Here at RHU we train horses that don’t just learn to react, but learn how to process thought, think and respond. The result is a horse that is prepared, reliable, and confident- not just for the show pen, but for any path you ride down.

Our Promise

At RHU the promise is simple- to develop your horses into those that exemplify the standards which we hold our own accountable to.

With proven success within numerous disciplines our courses and expectations develop horses into accountable, honest partners that can carry you to success both in the arena & on the ranch. Carrying a RHU certification adds credibility and authenticity to each and every horse that completes any of our courses. We believe in our program so strongly, that each of our sponsorship horses follow the same exact course development.

The Rushing Family

AKA Shoe-n-R CEO / Barn Boss + Assistants to the CEO

While Joshua Rushing is our lead trainer, RHU would not be what it is without the sacrifice and support of his family. While the training is managed by Josh, his wife, Holly, is the CEO (aka Barn Boss) of Shoe-n-R Ranch, the facilities that house RHU’s training operation. Her management of the ranch, home and day-to-day allows Josh & Tracy to devote the time they need to developing your horses.

You also will rarely find Josh or Holly competing at shows without their two children- Addisen & Rhyder- who both are equally unafraid of a hard day’s work and share in the labor of love that all equestrians understand.

Addisen has topped the podium numerous times as EXCA Young Guns World Champion in 2021, 2024 ARHA Region 4 Novice Youth Reserve Champion, 2024 MoRHA Novice Youth High Point Reserve Champion.

Rhyder has also earned his share of banners and buckles including 2022 ARHA Ranch Conformation Reserve World Champion, 2022 ARHA Youth Ranch Riding World Champion, and 2025 MoRHA Top 3 Year End High Point.

As a family they all share in the belief that quality horse training creates a quality partner.
